Orange Vanilla Maple Syrup with Sea Salt

Orange Vanilla Maple Syrup with Sea Salt

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes (plus 30 minutes steep time)

Servings: Makes about 1 cup (approx. 8–16 servings depending on use)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp water

  • Zest from two medium oranges

  • 1 tbsp vanilla paste or extract, or 1 vanilla bean scraped

  • 1 ½ tsp sea salt (or 2 tsp kosher salt), reduce if you want it less salty

Directions

  1. Add the maple syrup, water, orange zest, vanilla, and sea salt to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer.

  2. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and continue simmering for 1 to 2 minutes to infuse the flavors.

  3. Remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup steep and cool for 30 minutes.

  4. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean glass jar or bottle to remove the orange zest. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

My favorite way to consume it: whip together some cream or milk of choice with desired amount of syrup, and pour as a cold foam over cold brew and ice.
